‘I’ve Trillions and Trillions and Trillions, and That Money Is for the Governors’ — Hakeem Baba-Ahmed

National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic administration, questioning whether the increased revenue being generated by the Federal Government is translating into better living conditions for Nigerians.
Baba-Ahmed made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television, where he discussed the economic situation in the country and the political implications ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, President Tinubu has repeatedly highlighted the trillions of naira generated under his administration, but much of the money is distributed to state governments through the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).
“Tinubu says, ‘I’ve made trillions and trillions of naira for Nigerians.’ And that money is with the governors,” Baba-Ahmed said.
He questioned the extent to which ordinary Nigerians were benefiting from the increased revenue, arguing that state governors should be held accountable for how the funds they receive are utilised.
Baba-Ahmed also criticised the President’s approach to governance, alleging that Tinubu was detached from the realities faced by Nigerians at the state level.
He said the North in particular was facing severe economic challenges, with industries and agriculture struggling and poverty worsening.
The PRP chairman argued that the success of the administration should not be measured only through economic statistics and government revenue figures, but by the actual living conditions of Nigerians.
“The best way to verify it is not to look at figures and statistics; it must be measured by how real human beings are actually living,” he said.
Baba-Ahmed further predicted that Tinubu could lose the 2027 presidential election if the process is free, fair and credible.
He said the recent defeat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Osun governorship election demonstrated that the ruling party could be defeated at the polls.
He also maintained that opposition parties were exploring different forms of cooperation ahead of 2027, although he said a formal coalition might be difficult because the parties had already been registered independently by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
His comments have added to the growing political debate over the management of Nigeria’s increased public revenues and whether the economic reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration are producing sufficient benefits for citizens.
Reacting to the report, one commenter questioned why some state governments continue to face allegations of financial mismanagement if governors are receiving substantial allocations from the Federal Government.
The comment reflects an individual’s opinion and does not establish that any particular governor is involved in financial wrongdoing.
The debate over revenue allocation, state-level accountability and the impact of Tinubu’s economic reforms is expected to remain a major issue as political parties and opposition groups prepare for the 2027 elections.
