Burial Plans For Ogogo Released: Veteran Actor To Be Laid To Rest In Ilaro

The burial arrangements for veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have been released following his death on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
Ogogo, who was 66, reportedly died at about 3:00 p.m. after battling cancer.
Veteran actor Jide Kosoko, a close associate and colleague of the deceased, announced that Ogogo’s remains would be taken to his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, on Sunday ahead of his final rites.
According to the announcement shared by Kosoko, a lying-in-state ceremony is scheduled for Monday, August 24, at 11:00 a.m. at the Pavilion in Ilaro, Ogun State.
Meanwhile, an announcement from the Ilaro Muslim Community, shared by Best of Nollywood founder Seun Oloketuyi, stated that a burial prayer for the late actor would hold at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground by 10:00 a.m. on Monday.
The community described Ogogo as a beloved member of the Ilaro community and announced the burial prayer under the direction of the Chief Imam of Ilaro.
Ogogo’s Death
News of Ogogo’s death was confirmed on Sunday after his daughter, Kira Taiwo, announced the development during an emotional social media session.
The actor had been battling stage-four cancer, with his family recently appealing for medical assistance as his condition became critical.
His death has since sparked an outpouring of grief from fans, colleagues and other Nigerians who remember him for his decades-long contribution to Yoruba-language cinema.
The veteran actor was one of the prominent figures in the Yoruba movie industry, having built a career spanning several decades as an actor, filmmaker, producer and director.
His death comes just days after colleagues and industry figures rallied around him and held prayers for his recovery.
As preparations begin for his final rites in Ilaro, fans and colleagues continue to mourn the loss of one of the recognisable faces of Yoruba Nollywood.
