“$145 Million Fraud Allegations Return to Haunt Atiku Ahead of 2027 Race” Report Reignites Political Debate

By Peace Erewunmi

A report circulating in Nigerian media has revived long-standing allegations concerning former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and claims of involvement in the alleged diversion of $145 million in Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) resources.

The allegations, which have been part of Nigeria’s political discourse for years, resurfaced ahead of the 2027 general elections as commentators and political analysts revisit past corruption claims involving prominent political figures.

The controversy is linked to past Senate investigations and political disputes during Atiku’s time as Vice President, in which he was accused of wrongdoing in the handling of public funds. Atiku has consistently denied any involvement in corruption allegations levelled against him.

The latest resurfacing of the claims has triggered renewed reactions across social media and political platforms, with supporters and critics exchanging views over accountability and the credibility of past accusations.

However, it is important to note that no new court ruling or fresh official investigation has been confirmed in connection with the current reports, and the allegations remain part of historical political disputes.

As of the time of filing this report, Atiku Abubakar and his media office have not issued a new response specifically addressing the latest resurgence of the claims.
