The Nigeria Police Force has commenced investigations into alleged inciting remarks attributed to three political figures as concerns grow over inflammatory statements ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Those under investigation are Borno State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Sainna Buba; Chairman of Kuje Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, Danjuma Shekwolo; and Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District.

Force spokesperson, CSP Anietie Iniedu, disclosed the development during a joint security spokespersons’ briefing in Abuja.

According to the police, statements capable of inciting members of the public, particularly comments relating to the electoral process, may constitute a criminal offence.

Iniedu confirmed that Senator Fadahunsi had already been questioned over an alleged threat against members of the Accord Party in Osun State.

The investigation followed controversial remarks attributed to the three political actors.

Buba was accused of making threatening comments against residents who refused to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections. Shekwolo was also alleged to have told residents of Kuje Area Council to support the APC or leave the council.

Fadahunsi, meanwhile, was captured in a video allegedly making threatening remarks against members of the Accord Party.

The police said all the alleged statements are currently being investigated and that the outcome of the investigations would be made public.

The Force also warned political stakeholders to avoid inflammatory statements capable of disturbing public peace as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.

The development comes amid heightened political activity across the country, with parties and politicians already positioning themselves for the next general election.

The police urged members of the public with relevant information or evidence concerning the alleged incidents to cooperate with investigators, stressing that witnesses and credible evidence are important to successful prosecution.

The Force also disclosed that 154 persons arrested during the August 15 Osun State governorship election remained under investigation.
