A coalition of civil society organisations has called for an independent investigation into alleged irregularities surrounding the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election.

The coalition, operating under the Liberation Movement of Nigeria and Vanguard for Human Rights, alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Result Viewing Portal (IReV) was compromised during the election.

Speaking through its leader, Ganiyu Abiola, the group claimed that results recorded on physical EC8 result sheets in some areas differed from figures allegedly uploaded to the IReV portal.

The coalition further alleged that hackers worked with some technical personnel to manipulate the electronic results and claimed that the alleged activities affected results from areas including Ede North, Ede South and Egbedore.

It called on security agencies and the international community to conduct an independent investigation to establish whether the allegations occurred and identify those responsible.

The group also said it was preparing a formal petition to relevant security agencies, asking them to investigate the alleged compromise of INEC’s electronic systems and other evidence it claimed to possess.

However, the allegations have not been independently verified, and no official finding has established that the IReV system was hacked or that election results were altered through the platform.

The coalition urged political parties and other stakeholders dissatisfied with the election outcome to pursue legal avenues while investigations into the allegations are considered.
