Osun Election: APC, PDP Challenge Adeleke’s Re-election at Tribunal

By Peace Erewunmi

The legal battle over the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election has begun, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) filing separate petitions challenging Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election.

The petitions were displayed on the notice board of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Osogbo on Monday, September 7, formally commencing the post-election legal process.

The APC petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. The petition lists Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as respondents.

The PDP petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Adedamola and also challenges the election outcome.

INEC had declared Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, the winner with 511,067 votes, while APC’s Oyebamiji finished second with 444,815 votes.

The specific grounds contained in both petitions were not immediately made public in the reports reviewed. However, the filing means the disputed election result will now be subjected to judicial scrutiny.

The tribunal is expected to formally serve the respondents, after which further proceedings will commence.

The development marks the beginning of a fresh legal contest over the mandate produced by the August 15 poll, with the final outcome now to be determined through the judicial process.
