UK Envoy Urges Nigerians to Be Patient With Tinubu’s Reforms
By Erewunmi Peace
The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, has called on Nigerians to remain patient as the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues to roll out economic reforms.
Speaking in Abuja, Montgomery acknowledged that the reforms, particularly the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of the exchange rate, have caused hardship for many citizens. He however stressed that the measures were necessary to reposition the economy for long-term growth.
“These reforms are painful, but they are already beginning to show positive results,” Montgomery said. “Nigeria is becoming more attractive for investment, and with time, these changes will translate into greater economic stability.”
The UK envoy praised Nigeria’s revenue drive and efforts to stabilize the naira, but warned that insecurity remains a challenge that could undermine growth if not properly addressed.
President Tinubu has consistently defended his reform policies, insisting they are essential to rebuild the nation’s economy.
