Over 20 Suspected Bandits Arrested in Kwara as Police Launch Major Crackdown

By Erewunmi Peace

In a major breakthrough against banditry and violent crime in Kwara State, the Nigeria Police Force has arrested over 20 suspected bandits following a series of coordinated security operations across key local government areas.

The arrests, which took place in Ifelodun, Edu, and Patigi LGAs, were the result of intelligence-led raids conducted by joint security forces involving the police, local vigilante groups, and operatives from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

Among those arrested is a notorious gang leader, identified by security sources as Tambaya, believed to be responsible for multiple cases of kidnapping, armed robbery, and cattle rustling across the North Central region.

According to Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Adekimi Ojo, the crackdown followed weeks of surveillance and undercover investigations aimed at disrupting criminal hideouts and dismantling bandit networks operating within the state’s borders.

“We are determined to restore peace and safety to all communities affected by these criminal activities. Our operations are ongoing, and more arrests may follow,” CP Ojo stated during a press briefing in Ilorin.

Residents of affected areas have reportedly begun to return to their farms and businesses following the arrests, with many praising the swift response of security operatives and the Kwara State Government.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq also commended the joint task force for their bravery and assured citizens of the government’s continued support in tackling insecurity.

The suspects have been transferred to Abuja for further interrogation and prosecution by federal authorities.

This operation marks a significant milestone in the fight against rural banditry and reinforces the state’s zero-tolerance policy for organized crime.
