EFCC Chairman: House Built for Forfeited University VC Bigger Than Tinubu’s Aso Rock Residence
By Peace Erewunmi
The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has claimed that a house allegedly built for the Vice-Chancellor of a private university that was forfeited to the Federal Government was bigger than President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s official residence at the State House, Abuja.
Olukoyede reportedly made the disclosure while speaking about the commission’s efforts to recover assets linked to corruption and financial crimes.
According to the EFCC chairman, the property was among the assets uncovered during investigations into individuals and institutions whose properties and businesses were linked to alleged proceeds of crime.
He used the size and value of the property to highlight what he described as the extraordinary scale of wealth accumulated through illicit activities.
The EFCC has increasingly relied on asset tracing, forfeiture proceedings and recovery of suspected proceeds of crime as part of its enforcement strategy.
Olukoyede has repeatedly maintained that the commission’s responsibility goes beyond arresting suspects, stressing the importance of tracing and recovering assets allegedly acquired through fraudulent or corrupt activities.
The latest disclosure has drawn attention to the scale of properties being uncovered in EFCC investigations, particularly those connected to educational institutions and other privately owned businesses.
However, the specific measurements and value of the property referenced by Olukoyede, as well as the circumstances surrounding its forfeiture, should be understood in the context of the EFCC chairman’s statement and any applicable court proceedings.
The commission continues to pursue asset-recovery cases as part of efforts to strengthen accountability and prevent individuals from benefiting from the proceeds of alleged financial crimes.
