The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has begun an investigation into allegations of examination malpractice following the circulation of a viral video purportedly showing impersonation during one of its professional examinations.
The Registrar/Chief Executive of ICAN, Mr. Lanre Olasunkanmi, confirmed the probe in a statement, stressing that the institute maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards malpractice and unethical conduct.
“ICAN is committed to upholding integrity, transparency, and excellence in all its professional activities. We will not hesitate to sanction anyone found guilty of misconduct in line with our disciplinary processes,” Olasunkanmi said.
He urged members of the public to refrain from speculation while the investigation is ongoing, assuring that the outcome will be made public and appropriate actions taken.
The alleged malpractice, which surfaced in a video shared widely on social media, has sparked debates on the credibility of professional examinations in Nigeria and the need for tighter monitoring to protect institutional integrity.
ICAN, established in 1965, is Nigeria’s premier accounting body with over 50,000 members worldwide. The institute has repeatedly emphasized professionalism and ethics as core values guiding its operations.
