President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded a list of 15 nominees to the Senate for confirmation as members of the Governing Board of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

The request was made in line with constitutional procedures, as the Senate is required to screen and approve the nominees before they can officially assume office.

The nominations are part of efforts to reconstitute the leadership structure of the NHRC, an institution responsible for promoting and protecting human rights in Nigeria.

The Senate is expected to review the list and conduct screening exercises in the coming days, after which it will decide on the confirmation of the nominees.

If approved, the new board members will be tasked with strengthening the commission’s mandate in addressing human rights concerns and ensuring accountability in line with national and international standards.

Further legislative action is expected as the Senate deliberates on the nominations.
