The management of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has suspended seven lecturers over allegations of misconduct, including sexual harassment and the unauthorised sale of handouts and textbooks, as part of efforts to restore discipline and integrity within the institution.

According to the Polytechnic’s Public Relations Officer, John Onimisi, six of the lecturers were suspended over the alleged unauthorised sale of handouts and textbooks, while another lecturer was suspended following allegations of sexual harassment involving a female student. The disciplinary action comes amid growing concerns over reports of sex-for-marks, extortion, cult-related activities and other forms of misconduct on campus.

Some female students alleged that certain lecturers demanded sexual favours or payments in exchange for passing grades or protection from academic failure. Other complaints included the re-emergence of compulsory handout sales and declining discipline within the institution. These allegations are currently under investigation by the Polytechnic’s disciplinary committee.

The institution said the suspensions are precautionary measures pending the outcome of ongoing investigations. It assured students and the public that anyone found guilty of violating the institution’s rules would face appropriate disciplinary action in line with established procedures.

The Polytechnic reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe and conducive learning environment, urging students to report cases of harassment, extortion or any other unethical conduct through appropriate channels.
