Trapped Ogun Building Occupants Still Answering Phone Calls as Rescue Operation Begins

Emergency responders have commenced rescue operations following the collapse of a building in Ota, Ogun State, with reports indicating that some occupants trapped beneath the rubble were still able to answer phone calls, raising hopes that more survivors could be rescued.
Officials of the Ogun State Emergency Management Agency (OGSEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigeria Police Force, and other emergency responders were deployed to the scene shortly after the incident to coordinate rescue efforts.
According to emergency officials, communication was established with some of the trapped victims through their mobile phones, enabling rescue teams to identify their possible locations beneath the debris and intensify efforts to reach them safely.
Heavy equipment and specialised rescue tools were brought to the site as emergency personnel worked carefully to remove the rubble while avoiding further risk to those still trapped. Medical teams were also stationed at the scene to provide immediate treatment to rescued victims.
Authorities said investigations have commenced to determine the cause of the building collapse, while residents have been urged to stay away from the area to allow rescue operations to continue without obstruction.
The Ogun State Government assured the public that every available resource was being deployed to rescue those trapped and provide support to affected families.
