Over 20 Terrorists Killed as Troops Repel Attacks in Borno, Yobe

By Erewunmi Peace

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have neutralized over 20 Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in separate operations across Borno and Yobe States, following a series of coordinated attacks on military positions.

The most significant encounter occurred on Friday, August 22, 2025, when insurgents launched a nighttime attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kumshe, Borno State. The attackers met stiff resistance from soldiers of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade, who successfully repelled the assault with support from the Nigerian Air Force.

“The terrorists suffered heavy casualties during the exchange of fire, and several bodies were discovered, some buried in shallow graves,” a security source revealed.

Recovered weapons from the battle include AK-47 rifles, Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) launchers, ammunition, and motorcycles.

Further Operations in Borno and Yobe

In a related development, troops from Sector 1 OPHK launched a clearance operation at Dipchari, near Banki Junction in Bama Local Government Area, where more terrorists were neutralized and arms seized.

Similarly, in Yobe State, near Ndoksa in Buni Gari, OPHK troops in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) neutralized additional terrorists, recovering an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and two motorcycles.

Military authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining aggressive operations across the North-East to eliminate remnants of terrorist elements and restore peace in the region.

Borno and Yobe have remained flashpoints for Boko Haram and ISWAP attacks for over a decade, but recent intensified military campaigns, including combined ground and air operations, have dealt significant blows to insurgents’ strongholds.
