Marwa Charges Nigerian Youths on Skills Acquisition, Warns Against Drug Abuse

By Erewunmi Peace

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen.

Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), has urged Nigerian youths to prioritise skills acquisition as a pathway to self-reliance and national development.

Marwa made this call during a youth-focused empowerment programme in Abuja, where he emphasised the importance of vocational training, entrepreneurship, and capacity development in addressing unemployment and social challenges.

According to him, engaging in productive ventures and acquiring practical skills can significantly reduce youths’ vulnerability to drug abuse and other social vices.

He warned that substance abuse continues to pose a serious threat to young people across the country, affecting their health, productivity, and future prospects.

Marwa stressed that skill development not only empowers individuals economically but also serves as a preventive measure against drug misuse. He encouraged young Nigerians to take advantage of available empowerment initiatives and remain focused on building meaningful careers.

The NDLEA boss reiterated the agency’s commitment to intensifying efforts to curb drug trafficking and abuse while promoting preventive education and community engagement among youths.
