Onoh To Wike: Join APC Or Step Aside

A former South-East spokesperson to President Bola Tinubu, Denge Josef Onoh, has urged Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to formally join the All Progressives Congress (APC) or step aside from the party’s internal affairs.
Onoh, who chairs the Forum of Former Members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, criticised Wike’s proposed “Rainbow Coalition,” describing the political alignment as a potential threat to the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Onoh described the coalition as a “Trojan horse” capable of creating divisions within the ruling party.
He argued that the coalition lacked the political structure and grassroots strength of the G5 governors’ alliance that emerged ahead of the 2023 elections.
Onoh also accused Wike of attempting to influence APC structures while remaining a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He warned that such cross-party manoeuvring could weaken the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The former presidential aide further criticised Wike’s recent disagreements with some APC governors, including Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, describing the disputes as part of a broader political strategy.
Onoh ultimately called on Wike to make his political position clear, insisting that he should either formally register as an APC member or stop interfering in the affairs of the ruling party.
The remarks come as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with Wike and other opposition figures exploring different alliances while the APC seeks to consolidate support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
