INEC Declares PDP Winner of Gwagwalada Area Council Election

By Erewunmi Peace

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the Gwagwalada Area Council chairmanship election in the Federal Capital Territory.

The Returning Officer announced that the PDP candidate, Mohammed Kasim, secured the highest number of valid votes cast in the election, defeating candidates from other political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The election, conducted across various wards in Gwagwalada Area Council, was described by officials as largely peaceful, with results collated from all polling units before the final declaration. Electoral officers confirmed that due process was followed in the collation and announcement of results.

Gwagwalada is one of the six area councils in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where local government elections were held to elect chairpersons and councillors.

Following the announcement, party supporters gathered to celebrate the victory, while INEC urged political stakeholders and residents to maintain peace and uphold democratic values.

The commission reaffirmed its commitment to conducting transparent and credible elections, noting that the outcome reflects the will of the people as expressed through the ballot.

More updates are expected as reactions continue to emerge from political parties and stakeholders across the FCT.
