Nigeria could face a worsening power crisis as electricity workers prepare to down tools following the expiration of a 21‑day strike ultimatum issued to the Federal Government and power sector employers.

The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has warned that, unless their grievances are addressed, industrial action could begin soon.

Key issues cited include alleged anti-labour practices, wage violations, pension and tax remittance challenges, and poor working conditions in the electricity sector.

If a nationwide strike occurs, experts warn that it could disrupt electricity generation and distribution, potentially leading to prolonged blackouts that would affect households, businesses, and the broader economy.

Union leaders continue to urge the government and power companies to engage in urgent dialogue to avert a strike, while consumers are being advised to prepare for possible power outages in the coming days.
