President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has explained that his decision to sign the amended Electoral Act (Nigeria) was aimed at preventing political instability and unnecessary conflict in the country.

Speaking on the matter, Tinubu said rejecting the bill passed by the National Assembly of Nigeria could have plunged the nation into serious political disagreements and turmoil.

According to the president, the legislation had overwhelming support from lawmakers, and declining to assent to it would have triggered intense debate and tension within the country’s political space.

Tinubu emphasized that his administration remains committed to respecting democratic processes and working closely with the legislature to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral system.
