Tinubu Signs 2026 Appropriation Bill Into Law, Extends 2025 Budget Implementation

By Erewunmi Peace

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, approving a total budget of ₦68.32 trillion for the fiscal year.

The signing marks a significant step in the Federal Government’s efforts to drive economic growth, infrastructure development, and national security through increased public spending.

In addition, the president approved an extension of the implementation period for the 2025 budget. The extension allows capital expenditure under the 2025 fiscal plan to continue until June 30, 2026, instead of the earlier March deadline.

According to government officials, the extension is aimed at ensuring the completion of ongoing projects and improving budget performance.

The 2026 budget is expected to focus on key sectors including infrastructure, security, and economic development, as the administration continues efforts to stabilise the economy and enhance service delivery.

Analysts say the combination of a new budget and extended implementation timeline reflects a strategy to maximise ongoing projects while transitioning into the new fiscal year.
