The Nigeria Customs Service has taken disciplinary action against one of its officers after a viral video exposed an alleged extortion incident involving a motorist on a Nigerian highway.

The incident reportedly occurred along the Lagos–Benin Expressway, where a driver allegedly recorded officers demanding ₦200,000 using smart glasses during a routine stop.

In the video that circulated widely on social media, the motorist was seen secretly capturing interactions with the officers, sparking public outrage and calls for accountability.

Following the incident, the Customs Service confirmed that the officer involved had been identified, paraded, and handed over to its disciplinary unit for investigation.

The agency stated that it maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy on misconduct and extortion, adding that appropriate sanctions would be applied if the officer is found culpable.

The development has reignited conversations around alleged extortion on highways by security operatives and the growing use of technology by citizens to document such incidents.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and further details will be communicated after internal disciplinary procedures are concluded.
