Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state.

Danladi-Salihu secured victory during the party’s governorship primary election held across Kwara State, defeating businessman Yahaya Seriki and several other aspirants in the contest.

According to results announced by party officials, the Speaker polled the highest number of votes to clinch the APC ticket after a keenly contested exercise involving multiple aspirants from different parts of the state.

Party leaders described the primary election as peaceful and transparent, commending members for maintaining order throughout the process.

Danladi-Salihu, who currently serves as Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, is expected to lead the APC into the 2027 governorship election where the party hopes to retain power in the state.

Political observers say the emergence of the Speaker as the APC candidate could reshape political alignments within the ruling party ahead of the general elections.

The primary election attracted significant attention due to the participation of prominent aspirants, including Yahaya Seriki, who was widely considered one of the leading contenders for the ticket.
