By Damilola Adeleke

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has assured corps members that their new monthly allowance of ₦77,000 will take effect starting March 2025.

During an interactive session at the Wuse and Garki NYSC Zonal Offices in Abuja, the DG reaffirmed the commitment of both NYSC and the Federal Government to the welfare of corps members. The salary increase follows the recent review of Nigeria’s minimum wage to ₦70,000, which was approved by President Bola Tinubu in July 2024.

A statement released by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, confirmed that the new allowance was officially approved in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by the Commission’s Chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta.

Brigadier-General Nafiu reassured corps members that their payments would be made as scheduled, urging them to remain dedicated, disciplined, and focused on their service to the nation. He also highlighted the NYSC’s role in fostering national unity and instilling values such as patriotism, leadership, and teamwork.

A corps member, Zaka Deborah Alheri, speaking on behalf of her colleagues at the Garki Zone, expressed gratitude to the NYSC leadership for ensuring the prompt implementation of the increased allowance.
