Malema Calls for Single African Presidency, Currency, and Borderless Continent

By Erewunmi Peace

South African opposition leader and President of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema, has called for a unified Africa, advocating for a single presidency, a common currency, and a borderless continent.

Malema made this statement while delivering a keynote speech at the Nigerian Bar Association’s Annual General Conference in Enugu on Sunday.

According to him, Africa must dismantle colonial-era borders and embrace unity to compete globally. He proposed:

One African President

One Currency and Central Bank

Unified Parliament and Military Command

Visa-free travel across the continent

Malema stressed that cooperation between Nigeria and South Africa is critical to realizing this vision, as both nations have the economic and political influence to lead Africa toward unity.

The EFF leader added that a united Africa would have a stronger bargaining power on the international stage and better protect the interests of its people.

His call has sparked debates across the continent, with some praising the idea as a bold step toward Pan-Africanism, while others question its feasibility.
