Yorubas Are Sophisticated, Highly Educated – Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has described the Yoruba people as highly sophisticated and educated, warning that no one can afford to “toy with them at their own peril.”
Atiku made the remark while highlighting his long-standing ties to the Yoruba, recalling that his wife is Yoruba and that the region has played a vital role in his personal and political life.
“Yorubas are my in-laws. They are so sophisticated and highly educated that you can only toy with them at your own peril,” he said.
The former Vice President explained that his comments were not only a tribute to the Yoruba’s contributions to Nigeria’s political, social, and economic development, but also a reassurance of his respect for their influence in national affairs.
Atiku urged Nigerians to see beyond ethnic and regional lines, stressing that unity and mutual respect among the country’s diverse groups remain essential for progress.
His statement comes amid ongoing debates about ethnic identity, regional politics, and the role of cultural blocs ahead of the 2027 general elections.
