NYSC to Enforce NERD Clearance Policy for Mobilization Starting with 2025 Batch C

The Federal Government has announced that, beginning with the 2025 Batch C of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), all prospective corps members will be required to comply with the National Educational Research and Development (NERD) clearance policy before mobilization or exemption.
According to reports from BusinessDay, TheCable, and Arise News, the directive—issued through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF)—sets October 6, 2025 as the effective date for enforcement.
The new rule means that graduates seeking NYSC mobilization or exemption must provide proof of NERD clearance, which verifies that their academic records are properly recognized under the National Education Research and Development database.
Officials clarified that the policy will not affect corps members who are already serving or those who complete mobilization before the October 2025 deadline.
While the NYSC has yet to release a formal circular on its official website, government sources say the measure is aimed at strengthening data accuracy, curbing certificate fraud, and improving national manpower records.
