The Presidency has confirmed that the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, is currently unwell and recuperating in Abuja.
This clarification comes amid widespread rumours claiming that the minister had been flown abroad for medical treatment and was in critical condition.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dismissed the reports as false, describing them as “a gross exaggeration of the minister’s state of health.”
“The Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, is indisposed but stable. He has not been flown abroad as some fake reports claim. He is at home in Abuja, resting and responding well to medical care,” Onanuga said.
He further noted that President Bola Tinubu has been in touch with the minister and that there are no plans to replace him, contrary to speculations circulating on social media.
Edun, who has been instrumental in the government’s ongoing economic reforms, was reported to have taken ill last week, prompting concerns about his ability to continue in office.
The Presidency urged Nigerians to disregard unverified information and rely only on official channels for updates, reiterating that the minister’s condition is not critical and that he is expected to resume duties soon.
