Kaduna witnessed a major political gathering over the weekend as Governor Uba Sani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) received thousands of defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition groups into the ruling party.
The event, held at the Murtala Muhammad Square, drew a large crowd of supporters, party leaders, and public officials from across the state. The governor described the mass defection as a sign of growing confidence in his administration and the APC’s policies.
Governor Sani, addressing the crowd, said the new entrants would be fully integrated into the party’s structure ahead of future elections. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to inclusive governance and grassroots development.
“Our administration is focused on delivering real progress to the people of Kaduna. The unity we are seeing today is proof that our policies are working,” the governor said.
Party officials at the rally claimed that several members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly and five members of the House of Representatives had joined the APC alongside thousands of their supporters.
Security operatives were stationed around the venue to manage traffic and maintain order, as the influx of supporters caused temporary gridlock in parts of the city. However, reports of a “lockdown” circulating on social media were not officially confirmed by authorities.
Political analysts say the mass defection could reshape the political landscape in Kaduna ahead of the next general elections.
