Kidnapped Kebbi Schoolgirls Regain Freedom Through Non-Kinetic Negotiations
By Erewunmi Peace
Kebbi State authorities have successfully secured the release of 24 schoolgirls abducted from the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga earlier this month. The release was achieved through non-kinetic negotiations, according to official statements.
The girls were abducted on 17 November 2025, shortly after a military detachment left the school premises. Following days of coordinated efforts by security agencies and state officials, the victims regained their freedom on 25 November 2025.
President Bola Tinubu welcomed the freed students and expressed relief, commending the security agencies for their efforts in ensuring a peaceful resolution. He also emphasized the need for enhanced security measures in vulnerable regions to prevent future abductions.
The non-kinetic approach — relying on dialogue and negotiation rather than armed intervention — is seen as a strategic success, demonstrating the government’s commitment to preserving lives while addressing security challenges.
Local authorities have urged communities and parents to remain vigilant and supportive of ongoing security initiatives, especially in areas prone to attacks.
