2027: Muslim-Muslim Ticket Remains Thorny Issue, Says Ex-Speaker Dogara

Former Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has described the prospect of a Muslim–Muslim presidential ticket as a thorny issue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a recent interview, Dogara stressed that while the idea has been discussed in political circles, religious balance, inclusiveness, and national unity remain critical considerations for any presidential ticket. He noted that such issues are sensitive and must be handled carefully to maintain public confidence and harmony.
Dogara also addressed speculation about his potential replacement of Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate, clarifying that the decision is ultimately up to the president. He urged Nigerians to allow internal political discussions to proceed without undue interference.
Political analysts say Dogara’s remarks highlight the ongoing debate over religious representation in Nigerian politics, especially as parties prepare for the 2027 election cycle.
