APC National Secretary Confirms Engagement with Wike Over Rivers Political Crisis

By Erewunmi Peace

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has confirmed that the party is engaging the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in efforts to address the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

Basiru disclosed this during a televised interview, explaining that despite Wike not being a registered member of the APC, the party considers him a key political stakeholder whose involvement is important in resolving tensions within the state.

The Rivers crisis has generated national attention following disagreements between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and political factions in the state. The APC leadership stated that dialogue and consultations with relevant stakeholders, including Wike, are part of broader efforts to promote stability and peace.

The clarification marks a notable shift in tone, as earlier statements from party officials had appeared less accommodating toward the former Rivers State governor. However, the National Secretary emphasized that political engagement remains necessary to ensure lasting resolution.

Observers say the development underscores the evolving dynamics of political alliances and influence within Nigeria’s ruling party, especially as it relates to Rivers State politics.
Further updates are expected as consultations continue.
