United States President Donald Trump publicly acknowledged Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi “Remi” Tinubu, describing her as a “very respected woman” during the 74th Annual National Prayer Breakfast held in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, February 5, 2026.

The annual event — attended by political leaders, clergy, and faith-based figures from across the world — saw President Trump pause his address to highlight Mrs Tinubu’s presence among the guests. He praised her leadership, faith, and her role as a Christian pastor in one of Nigeria’s largest churches.

“We are honoured to be joined today by the First Lady of Nigeria, who also happens to serve as a Christian pastor at the largest church in Nigeria — a very respected woman. Thank you very much, it’s a great honour,” Trump said as he recognised her in the audience.

Mrs Tinubu, who has been Nigeria’s First Lady since May 29, 2023, is also an ordained pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

The acknowledgment by President Trump comes amid ongoing international discussions surrounding Nigeria’s security situation and debates over religious freedom. The National Prayer Breakfast traditionally brings together global leaders and faith representatives to reflect on issues like leadership, governance, and spiritual values.
