The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned two individuals before the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Maitama, Abuja, over an alleged ₦603.4 million job scam linked to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC).
The suspects, Gidado Ibrahim and Halimat Adenike Tejusho (currently at large), are facing an amended six-count charge including fraud, obtaining money by false pretence, and forgery.
According to the EFCC, the accused allegedly obtained the large sum of money from a complainant by falsely claiming they could secure her appointment as Group Managing Director (GMD) of NNPC.
Investigations revealed that they also used forged documents bearing the letterhead of the Presidential Villa and the Office of the National Security Adviser in furtherance of the scam.
When the charges were read in court, Gidado Ibrahim pleaded not guilty to all counts. The court adjourned the matter and remanded him in custody pending a bail application hearing. The EFCC continues to pursue efforts to apprehend Tejusho, who remains at large.
The EFCC has reiterated its commitment to cracking down on financial crimes and fraudulent schemes, urging Nigerians to exercise caution and verify claims of employment opportunities, especially in high-profile federal institutions.
