Judge Withdraws from EFCC Cases Involving Former AGF Malami
By Erewunmi Peace
A Federal High Court judge, Justice Obiora Egwuatu, has withdrawn from presiding over ongoing cases filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN).
The cases include a civil suit seeking the forfeiture of 57 properties allegedly linked to Malami and a 16-count criminal charge of money laundering. Justice Egwuatu cited personal reasons and the interest of justice for his withdrawal.
The judge directed that the case files be returned to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court so they can be reassigned to another judge to continue proceedings.
This development marks a procedural change in the high-profile legal proceedings against Malami, which have attracted significant public and media attention.
EFCC has confirmed that the cases will continue under a newly assigned judge.
