Dangote Refinery Hits Full 650,000 Barrels-Per-Day Production Capacity

By Erewunmi Peace

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reached its full operational capacity of 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) following the optimisation of its Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) and Motor Spirit (MS) production block.

The milestone marks a significant achievement for the $20 billion refinery, which is considered the largest single-train refinery in the world.

Industry sources indicate that performance improvements and operational fine-tuning enabled the facility to achieve its nameplate capacity.

With the refinery now running at 650,000 bpd, it is expected to produce substantial volumes of refined products, including Premium Motor Spirit (petrol), diesel, aviation fuel, and other petroleum derivatives.

Energy analysts say the development could:

  • Strengthen Nigeria’s domestic fuel supply

•Reduce reliance on imported petroleum products

  • Improve market stability and pricing dynamics
  • Enhance Nigeria’s position in the global refining market

The refinery’s attainment of full capacity is seen as a major boost for Nigeria’s energy sector and aligns with broader national efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in petroleum refining.
