Safe Water Will Boost Education, Health – Oluremi Tinubu

By Erewunmi Peace

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has emphasized the importance of access to clean and safe water, stating that it plays a crucial role in improving education and public health across the country.

Speaking during World Water Day 2026, the First Lady highlighted the challenges faced by many Nigerians, particularly women and children, who lack access to potable water.

According to her, millions of women and girls spend long hours daily fetching water, a responsibility that often prevents them from attending school or engaging in productive activities.

“Access to safe water is essential for healthier lives and better educational outcomes,” she said.

She noted that improving water access would significantly reduce waterborne diseases, enhance hygiene, and create more opportunities for children—especially girls—to remain in school.

The First Lady also called on stakeholders, government agencies, and communities to work together to ensure equitable access to clean water for all Nigerians.

Experts agree that access to safe water is directly linked to improved living standards, reduced poverty, and national development.
