Zulum Dissolves Borno Executive Council, Relieves Commissioners of Duties
By Erewunmi Peace
Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has dissolved the State Executive Council, effectively relieving all commissioners of their duties.
The announcement was made as part of a broader administrative and political restructuring ahead of the 2027 general elections. The affected commissioners have been directed to hand over their responsibilities to the permanent secretaries of their respective ministries on or before April 3, 2026.
The decision aligns with Nigeria’s electoral guidelines, which require political appointees seeking elective positions to resign from their roles ahead of elections.
While the development may appear sudden, it is a common political practice in Nigeria for governors to dissolve cabinets as part of governance restructuring or pre-election adjustments.
Governor Zulum is expected to reconstitute the executive council in due course, with new appointments likely to follow.
