INEC De-Lists David Mark-Led ADC Leadership Over Court Order
By Erewunmi Peace
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has de-listed the National Working Committee (NWC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by David Mark following a court order amid an ongoing leadership dispute within the party.
The electoral body reportedly removed the names of the affected party executives from its official records in compliance with the court’s directive. The move comes as part of efforts to align with legal rulings concerning the internal crisis rocking the ADC.
However, the development has sparked reactions within the party, with members of the affected faction expressing disagreement over INEC’s action. They argue that the matter is still subject to legal interpretation and resolution.
INEC has not announced any sanctions against the ADC as a political party, but the situation highlights the continuing leadership tussle within the organization. Political observers say the final outcome will depend on further legal proceedings and clarifications from the courts.
The incident underscores the role of the judiciary in resolving internal party disputes and the responsibility of electoral bodies to comply with court orders in maintaining transparency and order in Nigeria’s political system.
