Army Tells Court How Alleged Coup Plot Was Uncovered, Says Jotter Contained Names of Targeted Officials

A Nigerian Army witness has told a Federal High Court in Abuja how security operatives allegedly uncovered a plot linked to attempts to destabilise President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
During court proceedings, the witness testified that investigators recovered a mobile phone and a jotter from a suspect believed to be connected to the case.
According to the testimony, the jotter allegedly contained names of individuals said to be targeted in the alleged plot, alongside operational notes and plans connected to the case.
The witness further explained that the discovery formed part of investigations into what authorities described as a suspected attempt to overthrow the government, which is currently being examined in court.
The defendants in the case have, however, denied the allegations, pleading not guilty to the charges brought against them.
The matter remains before the court as legal proceedings continue, with the prosecution and defence presenting evidence and arguments.
Observers note that the case is still at the trial stage, and no final determination has been made by the court.
Further hearings are expected as the trial continues.
