By Erewunmi Peace
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned former Chairman of Skye Bank Plc, Tunde Ayeni, before a court in Abuja over an alleged ₦15.6 billion fraud.
Ayeni was brought before the Federal Capital Territory High Court on multiple charges bordering on criminal breach of trust, misappropriation, and diversion of funds.
According to the EFCC, the charges stem from alleged financial transactions during his time as chairman of the bank, where he is accused of diverting large sums of money belonging to depositors.
During the court proceedings, Ayeni pleaded not guilty to all the charges filed against him.
The court subsequently ordered his remand pending the hearing and determination of his bail application.
The case has been adjourned to a later date for further proceedings.
The development marks a significant step in ongoing efforts by anti-corruption agencies to address financial crimes and ensure accountability in the banking sector.
Further updates are expected as the trial progresses.
