The Presidency has denied reports claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is planning to change Nigeria’s name to the “United States of Nigeria” or abolish Sharia law in the northern part of the country.

The denial was contained in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the Presidency, the viral report circulating online was false, misleading, and not connected to any official government policy or constitutional proposal.

The statement clarified that President Tinubu has no intention of altering the country’s name or interfering with the existing legal framework governing Sharia law in states where it operates constitutionally.

The Presidency also urged Nigerians to disregard the rumours, warning against the spread of unverified information capable of causing unnecessary tension and misunderstanding.

Officials described the report as an attempt to misinform the public and create political controversy through fabricated claims.

The development has generated reactions online, with many Nigerians debating the rumours before the official clarification was released.

The Presidency reaffirmed its commitment to national unity, constitutional governance, and responsible public communication.
