Aproko Doctor Warns Nigerians Against Health Risks of Consuming Rotten Tomatoes

By Peace Erewunmi

Popular Nigerian health influencer and medical doctor, Chinonso Egemba, popularly known as Aproko Doctor, has warned Nigerians against consuming rotten or fungus-infested tomatoes due to potential health risks.

The medical expert raised concerns over the growing habit of purchasing and eating partially spoiled tomatoes commonly sold in some markets at cheaper prices.

According to him, rotten tomatoes may contain harmful fungi capable of producing dangerous toxins that can negatively affect human health if consumed repeatedly.

He explained that simply removing the visibly rotten part of a tomato may not completely eliminate contamination, as harmful substances could spread internally within the food.

The warning follows increasing public discussions about food safety and the health implications of consuming poorly preserved food items.

Health experts have also cautioned that long-term exposure to contaminated foods may increase the risk of serious health complications, including liver-related illnesses.

The advisory has generated reactions among Nigerians on social media, with many calling for stricter food safety awareness and improved market regulation.

Consumers have been encouraged to properly inspect food items before purchase and avoid consuming visibly spoiled or mould-infested products.
