Amaechi Speaks on Serving as Atiku’s Running Mate After Losing ADC Ticket

By Peace Erewunmi

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has reacted to reports suggesting he may serve as running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar following the outcome of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary.

Amaechi clarified that he has not been offered, discussed, or considered for any vice-presidential arrangement within the ongoing opposition coalition talks.

He described the reports circulating on social media and in some media platforms as misleading, insisting that they do not reflect any official position or agreement within the party structure.

The former governor of Rivers State stressed that his political engagements remain focused on his role within the broader opposition coalition and ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His comments come amid increasing political activity within the ADC and discussions around possible alliances and ticket arrangements among key opposition figures.

Amaechi maintained that decisions on candidates and party tickets are subject to formal party processes and not personal speculation or informal discussions.

As of the time of filing this report, the ADC and Atiku Abubakar have not issued any official statement confirming a running mate arrangement.
