Residents of several communities in Southern Kaduna have alleged that armed groups operating in the area are imposing harsh conditions on local populations in exchange for protection from attacks.

According to testimonies from affected residents and community leaders, some communities have been compelled to enter into informal agreements with armed groups to avoid further violence. The alleged conditions reportedly include payments, farm produce, livestock, and other forms of tribute.

Community representatives claim that the arrangements emerged after years of recurring attacks, displacement, and insecurity that have affected farming activities and daily life in parts of the region.

Some residents described the situation as a difficult choice between abandoning their ancestral lands or complying with the demands of armed groups in order to remain in their communities.

The allegations have renewed concerns about insecurity in parts of Kaduna State, where communities have faced repeated attacks, kidnappings, and displacement over the years.

Security analysts have warned that prolonged insecurity can create conditions in which criminal groups exert influence over vulnerable communities, especially in areas with limited security presence.

Community leaders are calling on the Federal Government and security agencies to strengthen protection for affected areas and ensure that residents can live and farm without fear.

As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had not issued an official response to the specific allegations. However, efforts to combat banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of violent crime continue across several parts of the country.
