The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 30 suspected cultists after foiling an alleged initiation ceremony in Isara-Remo area of the state.

The operation was carried out by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in collaboration with detectives from the Isara Area Command and Isara Division, following credible intelligence on suspicious activities in the area.

According to the police, the suspects were found at an uncompleted building where they were allegedly engaged in cult-related initiation activities, chanting, consumption of alcoholic substances, and other unlawful gatherings.

Security operatives stormed the location, dispersed the gathering, and arrested 30 male suspects who were attempting to initiate new members into the cult group.

The police further disclosed that four vehicles were recovered from the scene, which were allegedly abandoned by suspects during an attempt to escape. Other items recovered include a jackknife, a local drum, a “sekere” (rattle), and bottles suspected to have been used during the gathering.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the development, adding that investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the group and possible sponsors.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their swift response and reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling cultism and other violent crimes in the state.

As of the time of filing this report, the suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
