Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commended the European Investment Bank (EIB) for its support towards the implementation of the ‘Omi Eko’ water transportation project aimed at improving mobility and environmental sustainability in Lagos.

The governor gave the commendation during discussions with representatives of the European Investment Bank, noting that the partnership reflects growing international confidence in Lagos State’s development agenda and infrastructure initiatives.

According to Sanwo-Olu, the Omi Eko project is designed to transform water transportation across Lagos by expanding ferry services, upgrading jetties, improving safety standards, and reducing pressure on the state’s road network.

He stated that the initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to developing an integrated transport system capable of meeting the needs of the state’s rapidly growing population.

The governor emphasized that investment in water transportation would not only ease traffic congestion but also promote economic growth, environmental sustainability, and improved connectivity between communities across the state.

Officials involved in the project explained that the partnership with the European Investment Bank will provide financial and technical support necessary for the successful execution of the initiative.

The European Investment Bank has continued to support infrastructure and climate-related projects across several countries, focusing on sustainable development, urban mobility, and environmental resilience.

Sanwo-Olu expressed optimism that the Omi Eko project would significantly enhance transportation options for residents while contributing to the long-term economic development of Lagos State.
