Lagos Remains Nigeria’s Safest State, Sanwo-Olu Declares

By Peace Erewunmi

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining peace and security, declaring that Lagos remains the safest state in Nigeria. The governor made the statement during a courtesy visit by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Supervising DIG for the South-West, Adegoke Fayoade, at Lagos House, Ikeja.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Tayo Ayinde, Sanwo-Olu said the state government places a high priority on security and will continue to work closely with the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to strengthen the state’s security architecture.

According to the governor, Lagos has continued to enjoy relative peace because of sustained collaboration among security agencies, government institutions, and residents. He stressed that security remains a critical pillar of governance and development in the state.

“We do not joke with security. We are going to continue to support the police and other security agencies to ensure that Lagos remains the safest state in Nigeria,” the governor stated.

Sanwo-Olu also commended officers and men of the Lagos State Police Command for their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to protecting lives and property. He assured security agencies of continued logistical and operational support from the state government.

Speaking earlier, DIG Fayoade explained that his visit formed part of efforts by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to strengthen operational readiness, improve policing strategies, and enhance security collaboration across the South-West region.

He praised the Lagos State Government for its consistent support for law enforcement agencies, noting that Lagos, as Nigeria’s economic hub, requires a multi-dimensional approach to security involving technology, intelligence gathering, and public participation.

The governor reiterated that his administration would continue investing in security initiatives and partnerships aimed at ensuring the safety of residents, businesses, and investors across the state.
