Gov Eno Commends Tinubu on Local Government Autonomy, Urges Councils to Boost Rural Development

By Peace Erewunmi

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s commitment to strengthening local government autonomy, describing the initiative as a significant step toward deepening grassroots governance and accelerating development across the country.

Governor Eno made the remarks while addressing local government officials, stressing that greater autonomy for councils should translate into improved service delivery and meaningful development in rural communities. He urged local government chairmen to make prudent use of available resources and prioritise projects that directly impact the lives of the people.

According to the governor, local governments remain the closest tier of government to the people and must take the lead in providing essential infrastructure, improving primary healthcare, supporting education, and creating an enabling environment for economic growth at the grassroots.

He also called on council administrators to embrace transparency, accountability, and responsible financial management, noting that effective governance at the local level is crucial to achieving sustainable development and restoring public confidence in government institutions.

Governor Eno reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to partnering with local government councils to deliver people-centred projects while encouraging collaboration among stakeholders to improve the welfare of residents across Akwa Ibom State.

The governor expressed optimism that with enhanced local government autonomy and responsible leadership, rural communities would experience greater socio-economic development and improved access to essential public services.
