The Organising Secretary of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Toba Ijaya, has died after he was attacked by unidentified gunmen in Lagos.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Sunday night as Ajiboye was returning home from the Fadeyi area of Lagos. The gunmen allegedly intercepted his vehicle along the Ikorodu Road corridor and opened fire, leaving him and other occupants with gunshot injuries. Ajiboye later succumbed to his injuries despite efforts to save his life.

The Chairman of the Lagos State NURTW, Mustapha Adekunle, confirmed the union leader’s death, describing it as a painful loss to the union and expressing condolences to his family and colleagues.

The Lagos State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the assailants and says investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack. Authorities have urged residents with useful information to assist security agencies in the investigation.

The killing has sparked concern among members of the transport union and residents, adding to growing worries over violent attacks and public safety in parts of Lagos State.
