Three political parties reportedly failed to submit the names of their presidential and vice-presidential candidates before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) closed its nomination portal at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, according to an earlier report by Daily Trust.

The affected parties were identified as the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Nyesom Wike, and the Labour Party (LP) faction led by Nenadi Usman. The report quoted a senior INEC official as saying the parties did not complete the upload of their presidential and vice-presidential candidates before the deadline.

However, the development has since been disputed by both the PDP and the Labour Party. The two parties insisted they successfully uploaded the names and particulars of their candidates on July 10, well before the deadline, and described the reports as inaccurate.

The conflicting claims have generated political reactions as stakeholders await further clarification from INEC regarding the status of the affected nominations. As of the latest reports, the electoral commission had not issued a detailed public statement resolving the discrepancy.

The controversy comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general election, with compliance with INEC’s nomination timetable remaining a key requirement for participation in the presidential race.
